FAQs

So… what is Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact form of exercise that focuses on flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. It was founded in the 1920s by Joseph Pilates.

Do I need equipment?

Nope! You do not need equipment to do any of the workouts. All you need to do is let me know at the beginning of class and I will incorporate the necessary modifications. If you plan to take class frequently I would recommend taking a look at my helpful equipment list which is at the bottom of the ‘Classes’ page.

What is Kane method Pilates?

“Kane School Pilates certification is a rigorous training program combining the classic principles of Pilates with a modern, clinical perspective on the body. The program crafts advanced teachers with x-ray vision—teachers with solid knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and injuries as well as the skills to perceive and improve them.” -Kinected

Is Pilates similar to Yoga?

Mmmm not really… but Pilates does have a similar meditative state of mind as yoga and has a very strong connection to the breath. After class I always feel my mind is clear and calm and I try to bring the same feeling to my clients (you!) by the end of our sessions together. The goal is to feel better, physically and mentally.

Is Pilates right for me?

Yes! The beauty of Pilates is the adaptability. I always say Pilates never gets easier, you just get better at it. By that I mean as you get stronger you can access deeper muscles and perfect your form so anyone at any fitness level will be challenged.

I have an injury or am in a recovery period, is Pilates a good idea?

It’s always best to both read your own body and consult with your physician if you have an injury or are recovering from any type of bodily trauma. I encourage you to take the appropriate modifications for your particular situation and am happy to work around issues if we work together one on one but I’m not your doctor or PT so I, of course, always defer to them. Please see my ‘Terms of Use’ page for more detail on that policy.
